Movie Review: X-men Days of Future Past

This movie was AMAZING!!!!! I have gone to see it three times now. Each actor did a splendid job and I wasn’t bored at any instant.

Some of the best parts of the movie included all the scenes with Quicksilver (he was fantastic)

and the parts when Magneto goes badass and turns to his darker side, causing chaos wherever he goes…

But that is why we love him. Michael Fassbender did a great job bringing Magneto to life, and I love seeing members of the old cast brought back as well (**spoiler although wanted to cry when I saw Cyclops’s face). Also, still very very made that there was no Gambit, and even more furious about the news of Channing Tatum being the next Gambit… I guess we will see…

This was by far my favorite X-men movie, even with no Gambit. I can’t wait to see where they will bring the series. Although there were some plot issues, like them not bringing Quicksilver with them even though he is awesome and fast or not really mentioning Wanda or the fact we now have two Quicksilvers and maybe two Wandas because of rights held by Disney and Fox… **Spoler: Also I want to know why when Wolverine wakes up, he’s not angry about what Magneto did to him. I would be furious! The first thing I would say is where the hell is Magneto, I am going to kill him!

If you haven’t seen it, go see it right now! I promise it’s better than any of the others and that it will be worth your time!

Craig’s review for Nintendo 3DS Fire Emblem: Awakening

Fire Emblem: Awakening is the 13th game (overall) and the 6th released in the US of the totally epic, strategy RPG series that is Fire Emblem. This game was released in the US on February 4th, 2013, my Birthday! It was meant to be… It was developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo  This is a great buy if you have a Nintendo 3DS and was the biggest reason for me to stick with nintendo and upgrade my DS to the Nintendo 3DS. This game is like “The Princess Bride” it has everything! Action, romance, war, magic, time travel, good, evil and much much more! Nintendo hit a home run with this title and took all of the best aspects of the previous Fire Emblem games and added some great new features into the mix as well. In this game you are the strategist for the army of Chrom the Prince of Ylisse who needs to take back his kingdom and homeland and battle the evil that is corrupting his world, which brings together peoples and characters across the continent.

This is a strategy game so if you aren’t into that at all then you may not enjoy it as much but it doesn’t feel like a strategy game while you are playing it. You are more involved in figuring out what characters work well and who you want to use and how then the actual strategy of the game and you learn about each different character as the story progresses and how the connect into the story line. Each character has a different class with certain skills and weapons that come with that class. There are swords, lances, axes, bow and arrows, magic and healers as well as some half creature type characters that use their natural weapons. What is great about this game is that your weapons that aren’t magical have limited lives and if you choose the classic gameplay mode a character who dies, ACTUALLY DIES, forever… well you do have a chance to resurrect one person who died previously but you get the point.. But newbies to the series can switch off this option and there is also the classic easy, medium and hard levels. Another great thing about this version of the series and all Fire Emblem games is that most anyone can beat the game you may need to restart if you do move a character wrong and they do end up dying but I have beaten almost every version of the series on medium difficulty at least. So it is a great game if you are new to the series or to this type of game.

Another cool new feature in this game is that you play as your own customizable character on the battlefield and you get to customize their class and stats. Plus there is also marriage in this version of the game to increase the fighting skills if these two characters are battling next to each other. The same goes for normal friendships between characters which strengthen their stats if they are next to each other. The story in the Fire Emblem games and this version in particular are very good, they all have a similar framework for the story but vary in many different ways.Another unique aspect is you can recruit people on the enemy’s side of many of the battles if you talk to them with the right character or in some cases pay them, usually thieves or mercenaries. You can usually tell who these people are because they have actual names and you can tell that they are not the boss/commander for that level. Google helps a lot too! LOL!

But seriously this is a great game that you should check out and if you wanna go old school try one of the Fire Emblem games for the Game Boy Advance, Wii, gamecube or even further back  if you know japanese! If you want to learn more about the series check out this wiki for the series: http://fireemblem.wikia.com/wiki/Fire_Emblem_%28series%29 and this link for Fire Emblem: Awakening: https://fireemblem.nintendo.com/

Phoenix Comicon 2014

This comicon was a blast! So far it was my favorite con that I have ever attended! I got to hang out with a bunch of friends, see lots of artists and authors that I haven’t seen in a while, and I got to meet Nathan Fillion!!! Also, my husband got hit on by John Barrowman throughout the entire weekend, so yes it was the best con ever.

Everyone who volunteered at the con were excellent! They had a lot of people to deal with and by Sunday they had a good hang of it. This year was crazy but the con did a great job solving the problems of lines for photos and signatures. Although for the panels, a lot of people didn’t get in until after the panel started. But other than that I think they did a great job handling people.

Here are the pics I took this weekend, and some of the photo ops we took. If you are in the pic and want to be tagged or your name attached to it, just comment below and I can do that for you!

Also, the girl who made the ood hat gave me a card for her shop where she sells those but I can’t find it currently. Once I do find it, I will update this post with her website.

Thanks and hope everyone else had fun this weekend!

Manga Review: Blood Alone

Blood Alone

Blood_alone_cover_1

Written by: Masayuki Takano

Published by: MediaWorks(former), Kodansha(current)

Well, here is my first review of a manga series! Normally I will only review a manga that is finished or review an arc of a storyline, but since this manga only comes out every once in a blue moon, I am going to go ahead and review it.

Blood Alone is an ongoing manga published in Japan about Kuroe Kurose, a private detective and author, and Misaki Minato, a young vampire girl, and follows different investigations that Kuroe receives. It can be very dark in some scenes, but in others be very cute and sweet. It is well rounded and a rather serious manga compared to others. Misaki loves Kuroe, but she is forever trapped in an adolescent’s body. Kuroe cares for Misaki a lot and has given up vampire hunting in order to protect her. The vampire inside of Misaki is slowly taking over and taking away her memories of being human. it is a slow change and Kuroe hopes to help keep her humanity in tact, or he might lose her for good. There are a couple of arcs that the series covers, in English at least, and all of them are quite enjoyable and suspenseful. All the characters are well rounded and I love Higure, an elder vampire who looks like a little boy. He is wise and dark but on the outside he just appears to be a boy. I find those to always be the scariest vampires, ones that look like an innocent child but are quite the contrary.

I really enjoyed the published books so far (1-6), but am very upset that 7-10 have not been released in the United States. I ordered 7 in Japanese, hoping the kanji would have kana next to it because then at least I can translate it, but unfortunately it doesn’t. So far I have translated a page. Either I need to be patient and wait for them to publish in English, or further my understanding of Japanese. I’m not quite sure which one will come first.

All in all, this series is worth buying, even though not all are available in the United States. I have read and reread the 6 books so far and hope that they decide to publish more in English. If you are looking for anything vampire, series, cute, yet suspenseful, this is a perfect series to pick up.

Hope you enjoyed my first review, let me know what other manga series you think I should check out!
